Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Icarus Map is a free, unofficial interactive map for the game Icarus. It is designed to work without knowing who you are: there is no account system, no login and no server keeping records of who visits. You can open the homepage map, browse the Olympus, Styx, Prometheus and Elysium pages, and use the caves, deep ore and exotics hubs without providing any personal information.

The short version: your checked markers live only in your own browser. The only time you share personal data with us is when you choose to email us — and those emails are used only to answer you.

2. Data we store in your browser

To remember which markers you have already visited, Icarus Map stores small flags in your browser built-in storage (localStorage) — for example, that you checked off a cave such as R-17 on Olympus. This data:

• stays on your device and is never transmitted to any server;
• contains no name, email address or account identifier, because there are none;
• can be removed at any time by clearing this site data in your browser settings;
• is separate per browser and per device — checking a marker on your desktop does not sync it to your phone.

If you use private or incognito mode, these flags may disappear when the session ends. That is expected browser behaviour, not a problem with the site.

3. Data we do not collect

• No accounts, passwords or login identifiers of any kind.
• No payment details — the site is free and sells nothing.
• No precise geolocation of your real-world position.
• No advertising profiles and no sale of personal data.
• No analytics tools designed to identify you across other websites. If basic, privacy-respecting measurement is ever added, this policy will be updated first.

4. When you email us

If you write to support@icarusmap.net — for example to report a wrong marker, suggest a feature or ask a privacy question — your email address and the contents of your message are used only to read, investigate and reply to that request. Emails are not added to any marketing list, because there is none, and are not shared with third parties except as required by law.

Please do not include sensitive information (passwords, full addresses, payment data) in support emails. A region name, a cave ID or coordinates, and a screenshot are normally everything needed — see the Contact page for the ideal report format.

5. Hosting, logs and security

Like virtually every website, Icarus Map is served by a hosting provider that may keep minimal technical logs (such as timestamps and requested pages) to keep the site running reliably and to defend against abuse. These logs exist only for operation and security, are not combined with any user profile, and are retained only as long as needed for security and reliability.

Map images, location data and site code are served directly from this site. The site does not embed third-party advertising networks, social widgets or cross-site tracking pixels. Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect the site, but no internet transmission or storage method is perfectly secure, so you should avoid sending sensitive data by email.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

Icarus Map does not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The functional storage described in section 2 uses localStorage, not cookies, and exists only to remember your checked markers on your own device. If cookies that need your consent or measurement tools are introduced in the future, this section will describe them and the site will request consent where the law requires it.

7. Children privacy

Icarus Map is a general game-reference tool and is not directed at children under 13. Because the site collects no accounts or profiles, there is nothing for a child to sign up for. If you believe a child has sent personal data to the support inbox, email support@icarusmap.net and the message will be deleted on request.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EEA/UK or the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict personal data relating to you, to object to certain processing, and to data portability. Because the site holds no accounts or profiles, most requests will concern support emails you sent us. To exercise any right, email support@icarusmap.net from the address you originally used, describe the request, and it will be answered within a reasonable time. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

For data stored in your own browser, you do not need to wait for anyone: clearing this site data in your browser settings deletes your checked markers immediately.

9. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when the site changes — for example if new features store additional data. Material changes will be reflected in a new “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and the current version will always live at this URL. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy, as further described in the Terms of Use.
