Deep ore veins appear on all four Icarus maps: Olympus, Prometheus, Styx and Elysium. Open the deep ore map above, pick a region, and leave Deep Ore Veins turned on to show possible deposit locations. Zoom in along your route and mark finds as you clear them, since there are many more deep ore pins than caves. Deep ore often sits near cave networks, so turn on Icarus cave locations when you plan a mining route.

Switch the deep ore map to Prometheus to show possible deep mining deposits from the New Frontiers region. Markers cluster differently than caves, so zoom in along your drill route rather than scanning the whole region at once. Deep ore veins need a drill — a pickaxe is not enough. Place a deep mining drill on the vein, keep it fueled or powered, and defend it while it runs, since drills aggravate nearby wildlife. Plan drill stops together with caves and Icarus Exotic Locations when the route is ore-first, so one trip covers mining, shelter and extractor value.

Use both. Caves are quick pickaxe stops with ore counts on their markers, while deep ore veins are slower drill stops for late-game mining runs.
