Exotic deposits are fixed terrain sites: each deposit sits in the same spot every time, but the game only activates a handful of sites per prospect, so every marker on this Icarus exotic deposits map is best read as a possible spawn location rather than a guaranteed live deposit. That is exactly how the in-game radar behaves too — it can only detect deposits that are currently active, while this locations map shows every site the game can activate, so you can plan routes before you even drop.

Open any marker for its deposit ID, biome, how many extractors the site takes, grid cell and X/Y coordinates. Deposits tend to sit near rocky highlands and cave networks, so turn both on before you commit to a route.

Icarus exotics farming is a routing problem, not a luck problem. Deposit sites never move — only their active status rotates — so every loop you run over this exotic map gets sharper: scan, hit the two or three nearest live sites, deliver, and repeat.

Missions are the fastest farm. Most carry one to three active deposits, and you can extract from them without completing or even progressing the mission — drop in, craft an Orbital Exchange Interface, drill the deposits and deliver in a couple of hours. Exploration missions with no time limit make comfortable farming bases.

In open world the map refills itself. About three hours after a deposit is emptied, a meteor shower strikes another site and activates it, keeping roughly three deposits live at once and resetting your radar scans. Watch the sky — the impacts point you at the next farm without a single scan.

Extractors are deployable drills that slowly convert a deposit into Exotics. Three tiers do the same job: the biofuel extractor from the machining bench, the faster electric extractor from the fabricator, and the workshop IC-001 extractor, which drills at the same +33% speed as the electric one and runs on an IC-001 prototype power source — roughly 330 Exotics per power source.

Most deposits support two extractors at once, and a pair finishes a full deposit in about 20–40 minutes. They pause when their internal hold fills, so check in to empty them, and keep fuel or power flowing the whole time. Wildlife will chew on unattended drills, so walls, a shelter or a creature deterrent are part of the standard kit. When the deposit is dry, pack the extractors — and the IC-001 power sources — and carry them to the next site on the map.

Defense is part of the drill work: extractors aggravate wildlife just by sitting on a deposit, even when switched off. A practical setup is a wall line about three blocks out from the deposit with a shelter inside it. Building pieces cannot sit directly on the deposit, but you can snap a roof over the site, and extractors still place fine underneath. The biofuel creature deterrent from the machining bench also holds a perimeter — clear any animals already inside it after placement, then let the drills run.

Exotics are Icarus's rarest mineral and the reason the moon is worth fighting over: a naturally forming metamaterial that bends the known laws of physics. In gameplay terms they are the Workshop currency of the whole progression loop — you spend them on high-tier orbital gear before a drop, and every piece of Workshop kit on the station was paid for in Exotics.

They double as a score: extracted Exotics bank to your character, can be sold at the station for Ren, and some missions pay them directly. Prometheus adds a second flavor, red exotics, harvested from organic growths and cleansed before delivery.
